Pockets Full of Poetry- Eyes Closed...

Lately, I have felt like there haven't been many poems coming out of me. Ideas yes. But whole poems- not much. But if you're anything like me, you might scribble some phrases and words down on paper. And then they get shoved in your pockets or kept hidden in a journal that you never really take the time to look back at, until...

oh, just a few years later, when you come across one of those stashed away pieces that you hardly recognize as your own. It's like discovering a little extra change or some money you forgot you left in your pockets.

Here's one I pulled out from my 2007 journal. It still needs a little work, but I'll share what I have so far. It's inspired by the quote "I close my eyes so I can see" by the artist Paul Gauguin.

Eyes Closed

I close my eyes
so I can see
the magic I 'magined
between you and me.

You held out your hand
led me to the floor,
from that moment on
there existed no more.

The faces around us
quickly disappeared.
And with your arms around me
I had nothing to fear.

With a twirl and a dip
you sent my world spinning,
A skip in my heartbeat,
and my soul a-grinning.

As the song slowed,
you held me closer.
I gently rested my head
on your shoulder.

Dreams of us
cuddling close in the sand
The moonlight above us
And the touch of your hand

But with the last note,
I felt you draw away.
Left a kiss on my cheek
with nothing more to say.

My lips parted
ready to call you out loud
But I fell silent
As I lost you to the crowd.

I searched around
only to finally see
you offer your hand
to another dreamer like me.

I close my eyes
so I can see
the dream I 'magined
you and I to be.

I close my eyes
so I can see
the magic I dreamed
between you and me.
